Prof. Dr. Juanjo Dañobeitia Canales is Director General of EMSO ERIC (European Multidisciplinary Seafloor Observatory Research Infrastructure, at Rome-Italy). 
He is PhD. in Marine Geophysics with Cum Laude by Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1985; Director of Marine Geosciences Dept. at the Institute of Marine Sciences, Barcelona, 1988; Director of the Geophysical Dept., at the Earth Science Institute in Barcelona, 1997-2000; He has been working at U. Complutense de Madrid, U. Barcelona, Polytechnic University of Catalonia, ETH-Zürich, Bedford Institute of Oceanography (Canada), University of Utrecht, and Cambridge University (UK) among prestigious research centers. With 30 years of experience in management of national and international research projects. Formerly Director of CSIC UTM (2001-2012), acting as the head of the National Marine & Polar logistics and the marine technical development. Throughout his career he has held several institutional positions at Worldwide (Delegate ATCM, 2008-12, COMNAP Vice chair, 2011-14, etc.), European (Exe. Comm. Marine Board, ESF 1999-11; Evaluation Comm. of FP6-2003- Global-2 “Global Change and Ecosystems”, 2004; ERVO Chair 2011-13, etc.), and National (Deputy Advisor of the Spanish National Agency of Evaluation & Prospective (ANEP), Earth Sciences Section. 2001-03, National Science Plan R+D, Spanish Polar Committee 2005-2014. In 2003 he was the advisor to the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Science and Technology in marine sciences. Many research development projects on -seafloor observatories and marine sensors.
Author or co-author of more than 100 referred publications. 
He has the highest Spanish civil distinction for contribution in Marine and Polar Sciences. “Orden Mérito Civil“ for his exceptional contribution to the state in Marine and Polar Science, 19 June 2015, given by King Felipe VI. “Orden de Isabel la Católica” for his contribution in Antarctic Research., January 2010, proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and given Minister of Science & Innovation: Dra. Cristina Garmendia.
