Ángela Pérez
Entrepreneur 2022Executive Vice President of Health in Code
Born in Valencia. Mother of three. After earning her degree in Biological Sciences in 1996, Ángela began her career at the University of Valencia as a researcher and participated in the first European projects on whole-genome sequencing, which led to the publication of two articles in the prestigious scientific journal *Nature*.
In 1998, she decided to change the course of her life by leaving her career as a researcher and, at just
24 years old, founded one of the first biotechnology companies in Spain and the first dedicated to
human genetic diagnostics. This company, called Sistemas Genómicos, was the first in Spain to offer
services that were both innovative and previously unknown in the country, such as the
detection of a hereditary predisposition to breast cancer and the detection of
genetically modified foods. For 12 years, she served as CEO and
technical director, building the company from the ground up.
Between 2008 and 2009, Ángela expanded her business education by earning a Master’s degree in Business Management and Administration and an Executive Master’s in Innovation (2011) from the EOI. In 2009, she founded her second company, Imegen, with the goal of becoming an international leader in human genetic diagnostics by leveraging the expertise of its management and technical teams. Imegen’s growth strategy focuses on consolidating the sector in Spain; the company employs 65 scientists and exports 50% of all its services
