Curriculum Vitae

His most recent areas of research are: global change, climate change, air pollution, biogenic emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds, remote sensing, plant ecophysiology, the functioning and structure of terrestrial ecosystems, nature conservation and Environmental Protection. 
Among the findings of his research, the following stand out: the discovery of ecophysiological mechanisms linked to carbon and oxygen in species distribution; the development of remote-sensing techniques for assessing ecosystem functioning that are widely used internationally; the demonstration of the effects of global and climate change and air pollution on the structure and functioning of ecosystems and the biosphere, the discovery of the functions of plant emissions of volatile organic compounds, as well as the development of policies for the assessment and evaluation of the natural environment and environmental preservation. 
He has published six books on ecology, over 800 articles in scientific journals and books (more than 500 of which appear in journals included in the Science Citation Index, including *Nature*, *Science* and *PNAS*), and over 250 popular science articles (La Vanguardia, Avui, El País, El Periódico...) and continues to carry out extensive work in popularising science at both national and international levels. He is also a member of the editorial board of the leading ecology journals.

Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prizes for Environmental Protection has awarded the 2015 prize to Dr Josep Peñuelas Reixach. His work, which is highly recognised by the international community, has highlighted the impact of air pollution and global climate change on the structure and functioning of ecosystems and the biosphere, particularly in terrestrial ecosystems.
