Pablo Artal Soriano
New Technologies 2015He has established a world-leading laboratory in optical technologies. His work focuses on the study of the optics of the eye and the retina, and the development of imaging, optical and electronic techniques that can be used both to improve patients’ vision and in biomedicine. Some of his designs for ophthalmic instruments are in regular use within this medical speciality.
He has published over 180 research papers (H-index = 43) and has secured grants from the European Research Council, the highly prestigious ‘Advanced Grants’. He has delivered over 200 invited lectures at international conferences and given more than 150 seminars at research institutions.
He has co-founded five technology-based companies to develop some of his concepts and ideas.In 2013, he received the prestigious ‘Edwin H. Land Medal’, awarded by the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T), a prestigious award that recognises scientists with an insatiable scientific curiosity in the fields of optics and imaging, as well as their significant contributions as inventors, researchers, Entrepreneurs and educators.
The jury for the Rey Jaime I New Technologies Prize has unanimously decided to award the 2015 prize to Professor Dr Pablo Artal.
