Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Urban Planning, Landscape and Sustainability, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2010 prize to Mr Rafael Moneo Vallés.

He has been the driving force behind a transformation in architecture that emphasises its urban character, placing importance on continuity with the existing built environment and respect for the history embedded in built landscapes. His professional and intellectual work has promoted a sensible and sustainable use of materials and techniques, whilst ensuring that his works continue to express the new values and demands of contemporary society.
