Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I New Technologies Prize, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2007 prize to Mr Antonio Barrero Ripoll.

For his innovative work in fluid mechanics.

He has made a significant contribution to the development of liquid atomisation processes using both mechanical and electrohydrodynamic methods. Of particular significance is his discovery of a new technique for generating electrified coaxial jets with diameters ranging from a few nanometres to hundreds of micrometres. This method is important for producing micro- and nano-sized encapsulations of substances of interest in the fields of food technology, pharmaceuticals and materials science; it has been patented worldwide and is covered by an international licence.
