Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I New Technologies Prize, meeting in Castellón, has unanimously decided to award the 2005 prize to Mr Fernando Briones Fernández-Pola.

For his contributions in the field of nanotechnologies. His pioneering work in the development of the molecular beam epitaxy technique has led to the granting of several international patents. This technology has been incorporated into the manufacturing processes of semiconductor devices by international companies and laboratories, earning the highest scientific and technological recognition. Other applications of this technology include the manufacture of nanostructures used in the development of ultra-high-density magnetic recording media for hard disk drives, which are employed in information and communications technologies.
