Jury rulingThe jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Environmental Protection, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2008 prize to Mr Miquel Canals Artigas.
This is in recognition of his research into the processes relevant to understanding the role of the ocean in global climate change, analysing the transport of sediments to the deep sea and the evolution and transfer of heat to deep ocean waters in coastal areas of the Mediterranean. The significance of these processes in the carbon cycle and, consequently, in global climate events has meant that his research has led to a better understanding of the impact of human activity on climate change, primarily through the reconstruction of palaeoclimates based on information gathered from sediments.
