Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Environmental Protection, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 1998 prize to Mr Filiberto López-Cadenas de Llano.

For his long professional experience as an engineer in the 7th Hydrological-Forestry Division and Head of the Hydrological Section of the PFE-ICONA, as well as for his theoretical and practical studies on hydrology and vegetation cover, and in particular:

– For his models for calculating runoff and discharge, and for assessing water erosion.

– For his studies on the role of vegetation cover in water and soil conservation.

– For his analyses of torrential hydraulics and of hydrological-forestry management, restoration and soil conservation in catchment areas.
