Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Biomedical Research, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2008 prize to Mr José Baselga Torres.

This is in recognition of his career’s focus on the pre-clinical and clinical development of new cancer treatments, particularly for breast cancer, specifically targeting epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR), the HER2 receptor, and other key mechanisms of cancer cells. Furthermore, under his leadership, the oncology department at Vall d’Hebrón Hospital has become one of the most important oncology departments in Spain and worldwide. It is renowned for its research work as well as for the translation of this knowledge into clinical practice.
