Jury ruling

The jury for the Rey Jaime I Economics Prize, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2008 prize to Mr Salvador Barberá Sández.

This is in recognition of his status as an international authority in the field of collective choice. His research covers topics such as the design of social choice mechanisms, systems to prevent manipulation, strategic coalition-building, constitutional design and the implementation of criteria for distributive justice.

He has also played a key role in the development of economic research in Spain. In addition to his teaching work, he has established research institutions and promoted advanced study programmes of international significance.
