Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Economics Prize, meeting in Castellón, has unanimously decided to award the 1996 prize to Mr Juan Velarde Fuertes.

For his valuable contribution, over the course of a lifetime, to a profound understanding of the Spanish economy; drawing on a broad understanding of the dynamics of its history, social thought, and the analysis of underlying conflicts. All of this is viewed from a perspective in which economic development is seen as a horizon of possibilities, combining the rationality of science with the humanism of emotions.
