Jury rulingThe jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Basic Research, meeting in Alicante, has unanimously decided to award the 1997 prize to Mr Mateo Valero Cortés.
This is in recognition of his innovative and imaginative work in Computer Architecture. He is one of Europe’s leading figures in this field and has established a research group that operates on a global scale. He has also founded one of Europe’s leading computer science centres. In this rapidly developing field, he has maintained computer science research in Spain at the highest level.
His specific research contributions have been in the field of parallel computing, where his original work has focused on advanced vector architectures. His work has received widespread international recognition.
