2025 Oaths Declaration
06 | 06 | 2025All the members of the jury for the 37th edition of the Rei Jaume I Prizes have signed the 2025 declaration, which warns of recent threats to policies on science, technology and business innovation and reads as follows:
Recent threats to science, technology and business innovation policies
In recent months, we have witnessed sharp cuts in funding for scientific research, technological development and business innovation plans and projects in the US, which have caused great concern within the international community. The cuts to public investment in R&D&I, coupled with the lack of continuity and the growing uncertainty generated by those responsible for science policy, compel us to express the deep concern of the members of the PRJI 2025 jury and to emphasise the jury’s firm support for the scientific community, whose ability and independence to carry out the research they deem appropriate are under threat.
Cuts to funding, restrictions on international scientific collaboration, ideological censorship of certain research topics, and the dismissal of researchers and lecturers are disrupting the progress of science, technology and business innovation in ways that are difficult to rectify. It is necessary to reverse a misguided policy that will ultimately undermine national security and the pace of progress.
