Jury rulingThe jury for the Rey Jaime I Economics Prize, meeting in Alicante, has unanimously decided to award the 1991 prize to Mr Julio Alcaide Inchausti and Mr Antoni Espasa Terrades.
This decision recognises the significance of the laureates’ contributions to enhancing our quantitative understanding of Spain’s economic and financial reality, both in terms of the development of statistical frameworks and the analysis thereof.
Through the careers of these two researchers, the jury wished to recognise the significant progress that has taken place over the last fifty years in economic research in Spain, as well as the continuous improvement in the technical quality of such research, which the two laureates exemplify.
In the case of Professor Antoni Espasa, the jury considered the originality of his contributions to quantitative methods for analysing the economic and financial situation to be particularly significant. Furthermore, the prize recognises the importance of his research, which, by applying these techniques, has led to a better understanding of various aspects of the Spanish economy.
