Author of more than 300 scientific articles with an impact factor of 1,014 (H-index of 66), he has participated in more than 25 research projects and has published more than 35 book chapters. Member of the editorial board of three first-quartile journals and reviewer for the most prestigious publications in his field.
His main contributions include demonstrating, for the first time, the suitability of applying laparoscopic surgery to cancer, implementing the transanal approach in the treatment of rectal cancer, and describing the basis of the hormonal response in the resolution of type 2 diabetes following bariatric surgery.
His teaching work includes the creation of the world’s largest digital education portal on surgery, with free access for more than 1 million users from over 100 countries. Through his fundraising and patronage efforts, he has secured contributions to the public healthcare system totaling more than 25 million euros. Among the honors he has received are the titles of Honorary Fellow from the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, International Ambassador from the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, as well as the Ramon Llull Award, the Josep Trueta Medal for Medical Merit from the Government of Catalonia, and the Lino Torre Award for Surgical Research.
The jury of the Rei Jaume I Prize in Economics has unanimouly decided to award Antonio De Lacy “for his contributions to the surgical treatment of cancers, particularly colorectal cancers. His innovations in minimally invasive surgery, his development of new techniques, and his demonstrations—through trials involving multiple patients—of the safety and advantages of laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer are particularly noteworthy. He has developed an unprecedented training program in this technique, having trained more than 1,000 surgeons from around the world. With his Advances in Surgery Channel, he has created the world’s largest platform for surgical education.”
