Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Environmental Protection, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2009 prize to Mr Carlos Manuel Duarte Quesada.

This is in recognition of his sustained work, characterised by high-calibre publications and cutting-edge research into the ecology of aquatic systems, particularly in the study of the impact on global climate change of metabolic balances and the dynamic behaviour of ecosystems subjected to environmental pressures. Of particular note in this regard is his work in demonstrating and highlighting the impact of the melting of polar ice as a factor destabilising the planet’s climate, his scientific work, his contributions to raising public awareness and his commitment to the environment.
