Jury rulingThe jury for the Rei Jaume I Prizes for Clinical Medicine, meeting in Gandia (Alicante), has unanimously decided to award the 1995 prize to Mr Ciril Rozman Borstnar.
This is in recognition of his outstanding work in the refinement, development and application of advanced techniques in bone marrow transplantation. Together with his team, he has carried out more than 650 transplants, primarily in the field of leukaemia.
Furthermore, the jury has taken into account his efforts in developing new techniques for obtaining the necessary cells to prevent potential complications.
Of particular note is his intense dedication to the creation of the Spanish register of unrelated bone marrow donors.
His extraordinary work as a teacher has enabled his knowledge and the implementation of these techniques to be established in various clinics and hospitals, with significant expansion into Latin American countries.
