Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Basic Research, meeting in Altea (Alicante), has unanimously decided to award the 2000 prize to Mr Eduardo Soriano García.

For his work on neuronal development processes. His fundamental contributions to the analysis of neuronal migration have shed light on our understanding of the architecture of the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. His highly original experiments combine cellular and molecular aspects of cell migration during development. His work has had an international impact in the fields of neurobiology and embryology and has been superbly described in a series of seminal articles in leading journals. His recent work on axonal growth and the regeneration of the central nervous system extends his pioneering efforts into areas of great medical importance.
