Enrique Sentana Iváñez
Economics 2014He holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and is a lecturer in Economics at CEMFI (Centre for Monetary and Financial Studies).
Born in Alicante in 1962, he studied at what was then a newly established university, from which he graduated with a degree in Economics. He completed his studies with a scholarship from the Bank of Spain, which enabled him to enrol on the Master’s programme in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics at the London School of Economics. After completing this programme, he joined the Financial Markets Group. Seven years later, he accepted an offer from CEMFI and has been working in Madrid ever since. He has taught generations of postgraduate students and has worked on numerous research projects.
Jury rulingThe jury for the Rei Jaume I Economics Prize, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2014 prize to Mr Enrique Santana Iváñez.
It has recognised his work because “he has made a significant contribution to the field of financial economics. In particular, he has developed methods for managing volatility and correlations that vary over time. Professor Santana has also been a leading figure in the world of economics and has served as president of both the Spanish Economic Association and the Spanish Finance Association”.
