Economics 1995Professor Emeritus, University of Barcelona
Jury rulingThe jury for the Rei Jaume I Prizes for Economics, meeting in Gandia (Alicante), has unanimously decided to award the 1995 prize to Mr Fabián Estapé Rodríguez.
For his extraordinary role in promoting Schumpeter’s work in Spain, thereby contributing, amongst other things, to a proper understanding of the business world.
Secondly, for having tirelessly sought, through the critical analysis developed in his lectures, in his books and in his articles, to modify Spanish economic policy on more than one occasion, until it became a suitable instrument for our greater economic development. Finally, this award also seeks to recognise an exemplary intellectual endeavour, encompassing both research and teaching, carried out at the universities of Zaragoza and Barcelona, thanks to which, moreover, a fruitful school of economists has emerged which works—with splendid results at both academic centres—on Spanish economic thought and reality since the Industrial Revolution.
