Jury rulingThe jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Basic Research, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 1992 prize to Mr Facundo Valverde García.
This is in recognition of the significance of his contributions to advancing our understanding of the neurosciences, continuing the tradition of Cajal and opening up new perspectives.
He began his research into the structures and connections of the reticular formation using the Golgi technique and the tracing of pathways via axonal degeneration. He is currently head of a research group at the Ramón y Cajal Institute of the CSIC in Madrid, focusing on fundamental aspects of the development of the cerebral cortex and the olfactory system.
