Jury rulingThe jury for the Rey Jaime I Economics Prize, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2007 prize to Mr Joan M. Esteban Marquillas.
For his significant contributions to economic theory and its applications. In particular, he has examined the role of public policy in the allocation of resources over time and across generations. Furthermore, and most notably, he has contributed to the identification of the concept of polarisation as a key component in understanding social conflict and analysing economic development. His seminal work in this field is highly creative, considerably promising and increasingly influential in the international economic debate.
He has also been a pioneer in the institutionalisation of economic research in Spain and has contributed decisively to the significant international presence it currently enjoys.
