The only Spanish member of the Advisory Group for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) LSTM mission (the future Sentinel-8 satellite) and of the scientific committee for the Franco-Indian TRISHNA mission. Member (the only Spaniard) of the Earth Science Advisory Committee (ESA), contributing to the selection of the CryoSat 2, EARTHCARE and SWARM missions.
Over 300 publications, 13,367 citations, more than 40 research projects and principal investigator on over 60 projects. Guest editor for international journals (and a member of the Advisory Council Board for various international journals). He is a member of the Expert Panel evaluating National (PNE) and International (EU) scientific programmes, as well as those of the ESA, DAS (Denmark), AERES (France), GRF (Germany), NERC (UK), BELSPO (Belgium) and ISF (Israel).
Jury rulingThe jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Environmental Protection, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 2019 prize to Professor José Antonio Sobrino Rodríguez. Professor Sobrino’s research focuses on the study of global changes; he is a world leader in the field of environmental protection using remote sensing. Among other achievements, he has developed valuable algorithms for estimating the surface temperature of the land and oceans, evapotranspiration, heat island effects and changes in land cover.
