Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prizes for Economics, meeting in Valencia, has unanimously decided to award the 1998 prize to Mr José Barea Tejeiro.

For his contributions to the analysis and development of the Spanish pension system, its future evolution and the challenges posed by its funding.

His leadership of a team of researchers has also made it possible to bring all these contributions together in a collective study, the conclusions of which provide a starting point for understanding the present and future of Spanish pensions, the effects of the ageing of the Spanish population and their impact on other budgetary items.
