José Luis Mascareñas Cid
Basic ResearchHe holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He is currently a Professor of Chemistry and Scientific Director of CiQUS (Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials) at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has been a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University (2 years, 1989 and 1990) and Harvard University (1992 and 1995, a total of one year), and a visiting professor at the University of Cambridge (2009) and MIT (2013).
He has published more than 240 scientific articles and is a member of the European Academy of Sciences (2016) and Vice President of the RSEQ (République Université de l'École du République) since 2022. In 2025, he will chair the Bürgenstock Symposium, one of the most prestigious conferences in Chemistry. It is worth noting that he has just been appointed a member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences (medal number 66). Scientific Director of CiQUS since 2014, under his leadership, CiQUS has become an internationally recognized center of excellence, as evidenced by the award of 14 ERC grants. He is also the founder of the RSEQ Chemical Biology group (2012), which currently has more than 300 members.
