Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Clinical Medicine, meeting in Alicante, has unanimously decided to award the 1997 prize to Mr Juan Luis Barcia Salorio.

This is in recognition of his distinguished and extensive work in the field of clinical and experimental neurosurgery, developing new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. He established the world’s third radiosurgery unit, following those at the Karolinska Institute and Boston University. He is a world-leading pioneer in the radiosurgical treatment of carotid-cavernous fistulas and epilepsy, techniques which have been adopted by various centres both in Spain and abroad.
