PhD in Biology from the University of Barcelona. ICREA researcher at the Fundació Institut de Recerca Biomédica (IRB Barcelona).

Her fields of expertise are molecular biology, medical genetics, cancer genomics, computational biology, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics. During her doctoral work, she studied the molecular causes of hereditary deafness in Xavier Estivill's group. She subsequently moved to the European Bioinformatics Institute in Hinxton (Cambridge, UK) to work on Computational Genomics in Christos A. Ouzounis' group and later to the Center for Regulatory Genomics (Barcelona) in Roderic Guigó's group. In 2006, she opened her laboratory at Pompeu Fabra University and in 2016 moved it to the IRB with ICREA funding.

She has published more than 150 scientific articles and was elected as a full member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain in 2024.

Jury ruling

For her innovative research on driver mutations in cancer and the development of computational tools to better understand the origin and evolution of cancer mutations.
