Certest, established in 2002, is a biotechnology company specialising in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of in vitro diagnostic products for human, veterinary and agri-food applications. These diagnostic techniques enable the detection of diseases without the need for testing facilities or equipment.
The company operates in approximately 120 countries and invests 30 per cent of its turnover in R&D&I. In 2014, it established its subsidiary in the US, marking a new milestone for the company.
The 2015 Rei Jaume I Entrepreneur Prize has been unanimously awarded to Óscar Landeta Elorz, aged 42, from Zaragoza.
Mr Landeta is a founding partner and director of CERTEST BIOTEC S.L., a company operating in the biotechnology sector, specialising in the development, manufacture and marketing of rapid diagnostic test kits based on immunochromatography. Since 2002, he has been committed to developing a project with significant social impact for people’s wellbeing, addressing an issue as crucial as people’s health, regardless of their purchasing power. In this context, he offers an innovative and affordable diagnostic test, whilst recognising that the company must achieve sustained growth in order to ensure long-term viability and a global impact. In fact, he has succeeded in identifying business opportunities in this highly complex sector and is credited with developing the entire cycle, from R&D&I through to implementation and commercialisation in international markets (the company operates in 120 countries), including in a market as competitive as that of the USA where the company has a subsidiary.
In short, it can be said that Mr Landeta’s business project brings about a significant improvement for society as a whole, and he can be regarded as a clear role model in the entrepreneurial sphere.
