Silvia de Sanjosé Llongueras
Clinic Research and Public HealthPhD from the University of London. She is currently an Associate Researcher at ISGlobal in Barcelona and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of Washington (USA). A medical doctor specialized in Family and Community Medicine, she also holds a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Her work focuses on cancer epidemiology, with particular emphasis on cervical cancer and the human papillomavirus (HPV). She currently serves as a consultant for the National Cancer Institute (NCI/NIH), where she co-leads the multinational PAVE project, aimed at validating innovative, low-cost, AI-enhanced cervical cancer screening strategies in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
She also serves as an advisor to the Catalan Institute of Oncology and the World Health Organization (WHO) on cervical cancer screening guidelines and their implementation. With over 35 years of experience in HPV-related research and public health, she has made significant contributions to the field.
Jury rulingThe Clinical Research and Public Health Jury has unanimously awarded the Prize to Dr. Silvia de Sanjosé Llongueras for her studies on the relationship between the Human Papilloma Virus and certain genital mucosal carcinomas and for promoting the use of the HPV vaccine in young people, particularly in girls/adolescents, which has contributed to the eradication of cervical carcinoma, a common and, in many cases, fatal disease.
