Curriculum Vitae

PhD in Mathematics. ICREA Research Professor. Upon completing his studies, he undertook research stays at the University of Gothenburg and the University of Paris. He returned to Barcelona on a Ramón y Cajal fellowship.

He was awarded the Salem Prize by the Institute for Advanced Study and Princeton University for his proof of the semi-additivity of the analytic capacity and his solution to the Painlevé problem. He subsequently received the Young Researcher Award from the European Mathematical Society.
He recently secured an ERC Advanced Grant for the development of ‘Geometric Analysis in Euclidean Space’. His current research in mathematics focuses on Fourier analysis, geometric measure theory and potential theory.

He is the author of more than 70 articles published in leading mathematical journals, including the *Annals of Mathematics*, the *Journal of the American Mathematical Society*, *Communications in Pure and Applied Mathematics*, *Acta Mathematica*, the *Journal of the European Mathematical Society*, the *Duke Mathematical Journal*, the *American Journal of Mathematics* and *Advances in Mathematics*, amongst others. He is also the author of a book published by Birkhäuser, which was awarded the Ferran Sunyer Balaguer Prize.

Jury ruling

The jury for the Rei Jaume I Prize for Basic Research, meeting in Valencia, has decided by a majority to award the 2019 prize to Professor Xavier Tolsa Domènech.
An exceptional mathematician, his work has raised the fields of harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory to the highest levels. His work is profound and inventive, and he has achieved many breakthroughs and accomplishments. His principal scientific achievement lies in solving three of the most challenging open problems, which have earned him international recognition. These results are fundamental to pure mathematics, but will also have implications for applications such as signal theory and neuroscience.
