On 7 January, the call for nominations for the Rei Jaume I Prizes opened, and the deadline for submissions is 5 April. The awards for Basic Research, Economics, Biomedical Research, Environmental Protection, New Technologies and Entrepreneurship will recognise the most prestigious scientists and entrepreneurs at the 35th edition in 2023.

As set out in the rules, candidates must have carried out the majority of their professional work in Spain and, preferably, be resident in Spain. This is one of the most significant features of these awards, as it aims to promote research, entrepreneurship and scientific development in Spain. https://fprj.es/premios-rji/#convocatoria

The aim of the Rei Jaume I Prizes is to promote science, research and entrepreneurship in Spain. With six prizes, each worth €100,000, they are among the most lucrative in the country. The juries are once again expected to include around 20 Nobel Laureates this year.

Since their creation in 1989 under the patronage of His Majesty the King, nearly 500 distinguished figures have served on the juries. Of these, up to 60 are Nobel Laureates who have travelled to Valencia specifically for the occasion. More than 168 of our country’s leading researchers, scientists and businesspeople have been recognised with these prestigious awards.

About the Rei Jaume I Prizes

The Rei Jaume I Prizes are presented to individuals who have excelled in their field and who have carried out the majority of their professional work in Spain. Candidates must be nominated by third parties and must provide evidence of their merits. There are currently six awards, each carrying a prize of 100,000 euros and a gold medal. They are recognised as the most prestigious awards for work carried out in Spain and are among the best-paid in the country. The winners in each category are committed to allocating a portion of the prize money to research and entrepreneurship in Spain.
